An All Volunteer Fire District
Our local community has been fortunate through the years to maintain an all-volunteer firefighter operation. Fire Districts our size typically have enough paid firefighters to provide around the clock coverage 365 days per year. By continuing to run an all volunteer fire disrict, the GFPD can save local taxpayers as much as 1 million dollars per year. Because of the increased call volume, the cost of living in our area, and stringent requirements for training and certifying a volunteer firefighter, the GFPD is becoming increasingly challenged with recruiting and maintaining qualified volunteers. Currently 30 men and women donate over 10,000 hours a year through the GFPD to keep our community and our lives safe. We owe it to our volunteers to give them adequate training facilities and comfortable quarters when they are on duty and away from home and family.

Lou Preston

"If there is a real emergency, I kown I can rely on them taking care of me."
When Lou Preston came upon the scene of his wife's car accident, the Geyserville Fire Protection District was already on-site caring for her. It was a dark and rainy evening when Susan was driving home on Dry Creek Road, her husband following just moments behinde her. She lost control on a blide curve, hit a concrete abutment, and rolled her car. Volunteer firefighters, first on the scene, pulled Susan from her mangled vehicle, checked her vital signs and stabilized her until the ambulance arrived.

Raymond Teldeschi

"They are always first on the scene. They are always there before anybody else"
When a 1500 pound rotary chopper fell on Ray Teldeschi's chest, volunteer firefighters from the Geyserville Fire Protection District were first on the scene to help. Not many people survive the type of injuries he sustained, with a flailed chest, lacerated liver, multiple fractures and punctured lungs. If not for the response time, availability and medical training of the two volunteer firefighters who were first on the scene, he might not be here today to tell his story.

PROBLEMS WTIH THE CURRENT FIRE STATION
The GFPD is the largest fire district in Sonoma County, yet we do not have adequate facilities to properly train and recruit the number of volunteers needed to staff a district our size.

The current structure places our firefighters at risk because it does not provide space to properly sanitize and decontaminate themselves or their equipment.

Our fire station is long outdated and is not likely to remain standing in a major earthquake, which places our community at risk.

The current facility simply does not provide adequate space to store the needed fire equipment and fire trucks that are required by our growing community.
